Seniors

In honour of our seniors, The Rooms celebrates National Senior’s Day and the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. We value those who made it possible for us to be who we are today.

The Rooms will offer free admission to seniors on October 1 and 2.

Tai Chi Demonstration, 1 pm – 3 pm - Meet some members of the local chapter of Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi, a global not for profit organization, who will be demonstrating their practice in the Atrium.

What is Tai Chi? It is a series of gentle movements that strengthen and relax the body and mind. Tai Chi is considered good for improving balance and other common health issues related to aging.

Movement in the Atrium with Hilary Walsh, 11am – 12pm -  Hilary Walsh (she/her) will lead participants through a movement session, surrounded by the rolling hills of the Narrows. The session will focus on themes of place, home and connections, inspired by the environment and history of Newfoundland and Labrador. All participants and abilities welcome. The session is fully adaptable for participants’ physicality.

Make a Postcard - Postcards are a fun and creative way to communicate with others, near and far. Our Postcard making station will be set up for all to enjoy. Try a blind contour exercise or sketch the Narrows, write a personal message, then pop your postcard in the mail for someone special.

Visit the Galleries – we have some new and exciting exhibitions, including Generations: The Sobey Family and Canadian Art. For a full list, please see our website www.therooms.ca

Visit the Culture Sheds – try your hand at splitting a faux codfish, practice bringing a turn of water or give a musical instrument a try.

Programs are included in the cost of admission, free for seniors and members.
