Workshop
Artist Ginok Song will guide participants through the art of Korean Sumukwha (Korean Ink Painting). Ginok will begin demonstrating to prepare mukmul (black ink) using an inkstone. This process of ink preparation holds significance as a mindful ritual before commencing the actual painting. Students will become acquainted with brush techniques and learn about the various values of “muk”.
Ginok will provide step-by-step instructions to paint a tuckamore spruce tree, a symbol of Newfoundland and Labrador’s resilience, along with a monochromatic landscape featuring the tree. Subsequently, Ginok will demonstrate the proper method of mounting Sumukwha on a board for preservation.
Workshop cost: $65 (+HST), 10% discount for Rooms Members. All materials included.
Limited spaces! Pre-registration required. To register, please contact Visitor Services at (709)757-8090.
