In Conversation: Sheilagh O'Leary and Mireille Eagan

Date: Mar 6
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Where: Theatre

Please join renowned photographer, filmmaker and activist, Sheilagh O’Leary in conversation with Mireille Eagan, Curator of Contemporary Art as they discuss Sheilagh’s newest body of work, A Sea Change, on now in the Level 3 Art Gallery.

Sheilagh O’Leary’s exhibition, A Sea Change, is a tribute to three generations of women in her family. Her work explores cultural erasure and resurgence from a feminist, matrilineal standpoint—drawing inspiration from her mother's experiences as a French-Mi'kmaw woman in Newfoundland in the 1930s-50s. Analogue (non-digital) portraits and cyanotypes blend the body with elements of the sea to symbolize life, renewal, and change. Throughout, the work reveals complex interactions between embodiment and absence, power dynamics and identity, as well as the key role of cultural narratives in responsible environmental stewardship.

Cash bar and reception to follow.

Tickets: $12 (plus HST). Free for Rooms Members. Includes admission to exhibitions.
