Auks, Wolves and Whales

What fills the void when a species is no more? Legends, folklore, and history worth learning from. Come listen to the stories of the Great Auk, the Newfoundland Wolf, and Endangered Whales as they echo across the ages through their body and bones. Commiserate with the extinct, heed the calls of the endangered, hold ossified bones, and see how artists transform tragedy into hope for a sustainable future.

Tour is approximately 30 – 40 minutes and included in the cost of admission.

To celebrate International Archaeology Day, please join renowned flint knapping expert Tim Rast as he demonstrates how to create tools from stone. Learn how much skill is required to work with materials like stone, bone, and antlers.

Have you ever wondered how museums, textbooks, or papers get those detailed drawings of specimens to look so realistic? Don’t worry, it’s not as hard as you think!

In this workshop, we will be exploring the art and science of scientific illustration—measured drawings that are created to preserve an artifact and highlight features of its surface. It’s an excellent way to learn a new skill and examine a specimen in a new way!

Cost: $40 plus HST. 10% discount for Rooms members.
All materials included! Register online or call (709) 757-8090.
