Join Mi’kmaq artist Kayla Stride as they talk about their artistic practice and work featured in the exhibition Tekweywinen tel weljesultiek (Be With Us in Our Joy). Kayla will highlight how art, music and storytelling preserve and promote Indigenous culture.

About the artist:
Kayla Stride is a ceramic artist from the Miawpukek First Nation, known for their hand-carved plates and raku-fired pottery incorporating Mi’kmaq motifs and non-traditional materials. With a background in Fine Art (ceramics) from NSCAD and Visual Art from the College of the North Atlantic, Kayla blends contemporary techniques with cultural storytelling. They currently teach music and art in Miawpukek First Nation inspiring the next generation through art and cultural pride.
Kayla’s work is currently exhibited as part of Tekweywinen tel weljesultiek (Be With Us in Our Joy), a uniquely interactive and play-based experience that showcases the works of seven Indigenous artists based in Wabanaki – inviting you to explore their (and your) individual interpretations of joy.

Our experienced instructor will guide you through fundamental drawing techniques. Each session focuses on a different theme, from drawing the harbor view to capturing the details of our natural history collection.
Join our comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in a creative and supportive environment. All skill levels and experience are welcome.
