Join PhD Candidate in Folklore, Meaghan Collins as she shares her research on the tradition of Sailor’s Valentines and the ties between Newfoundland and Barbados through years of trade.
Popular in the 19th Century, these hand-crafted souvenirs were collected and gifted by North American, British, and European sailors and steamship tourists. The Sailor’s Valentine is a tangible example of the shared cultural and foodways traditions between Countries and Continents that still captures the imagination today.
