Get to know the artifacts and material culture from The Rooms Collections better through drawing. This new weekly series is designed for creatives who want to sketch independently and draw from a unique collection of artifacts and objects from our 6 vaults.

Each session of Drawing from Our Collections will feature a new curated selection of artifacts and material culture from our extensive archives, art gallery, and museum vaults. It will be a rare opportunity to observe and draw from items that are not usually accessible to the public. Prepare to gain valuable knowledge about our collections along with others who are keen to draw, sketch and learn.

This series is for those comfortable with drawing independently in a supportive and engaging environment. Bring your sketchbook and pencils and join us for a creative adventure that will deepen your connection to art and history.

4 sessions: October 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 2 – 4 pm

Cost: $80 plus HST for 4 sessions. 10% discount for Rooms members. Must be purchased as a block of 4.

Prefer an evening time slot? There is also a 6:30 – 8:30 pm session offered every Wednesday in October.

Unleash Your Inner Artist at The Rooms!

Come draw at The Rooms and practice your skills with focused exercises.

What to Expect:
Our experienced instructor will guide you through fundamental drawing techniques. Each session focuses on a different theme, from drawing the harbour view to capturing the details of our natural history collection.

This is a creative and supportive environment; all skill levels and experience are welcome! Designed for ages 15 and up.

Quality drawing supplies are available, or feel free to bring your own sketchbook.

Cost: $20 plus HST. 10% discount for Rooms members. Drop-ins welcome!

Art Tea

Art Tea is a contemplative way to experience our exhibitions. Join us for a visit to the art gallery, then exchange ideas and share reflections about current topics in art. This is a casual and relaxed group setting. Tea will be served overlooking the breathtaking view of the harbour.

Cost: $20 plus HST. 10% discount for Rooms members. Seating is limited. Tickets are available online or by calling (709) 757-8090.

Peoples of Newfoundland and Labrador

Stroll across land and sea, and through time, to meet the peoples who have made Newfoundland and Labrador home for the past 9,000 years.

Each tour is approximately 30 – 40 minutes and is included in the cost of admission. Free for Rooms members.

This feature-length documentary from 1974 takes viewers inside Fidel Castro’s Cuba. A movie-making threesome hope that Fidel himself will star in their film. The unusual crew consists of former Newfoundland premier Joseph Smallwood, radio and TV owner Geoff Stirling, and NFB film director Michael Rubbo.

Meet the artist and celebrate the opening of Toby Rabinowitz: A World Within A World at our free public gallery reception!

Toby Rabinowitz is a beloved St. John’s artist whose work radiates warmth and vitality. For over 30 years, she has worked across drawing, painting, photography, embroidery, and clay, finding endless inspiration in the natural world.

For Toby, making art is both a personal calling and an invitation for viewers to experience joy and delight in the possibilities of creativity.

A World Within A World gathers a lively community of creatures, places, and stories. Together, they reflect Toby’s lifelong creative journey, shaped by curiosity, kindness, and a belief in the everyday magic that surrounds us all.
